Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of research files, reports, articles, manuscripts, and press releases relating to the study of the Negro Leagues. The research resulted in a raw narrative and bibliography of nearly 800 pages and a statistical database of 3000 records, league leaders, and all-time leaders. The most comprehensive compilation of statistics on the Negro Leagues that have ever been accumulated. There are many files with newspaper clippings from Chicago Defender, Kansas City Call, Pittsburgh Courier, and the New York Age.

Biographical / Historical
The Negro Leagues Researchers & Authors Group were tasked with studying, researching and compiling information related to the Negro Leagues between 1860 and 1960. This project was made possible with the support of Major League Baseball. A call for proposals was sent out and in February 2001, the research team was selected, led by Dr. Lawrence Hogan, Dick Clark, and Larry Lester. A diverse group of more than 5 authors, researchers and historians were part of this academic study. Based on this academic study, a special election of Negro leagues and pre-Negro leagues candidates was held in 2006. Seventeen were elected which included 12 players, five executives, which included the first woman, Effa Manley. A book was published in 2006 by National Geographic titled "Shades of Glory: the Negro Leagues and the Story of African American Baseball", written by Larry Hogan.
