Harry Dalton was born August 23, 1928, a native of West Springfield, MA. He graduated from Amherst College in 1950 then served as a First Lieutenant in the Korean War. Upon his return in 1953, Dalton joined the Orioles organization. His first baseball job paid $45.00 per week but by 1961, he had taken charge of the minor league operations. He was Farm Director with the Orioles from 1961 through 1965 and became Vice President from 1966 to 1971. From 1972 through 1977, he was general manager and Vice President of the California Angels before moving on the Brewers organization in 1978. He remained as GM with Milwaukee until 1991 and continued in a non-baseball capacity until 1994. During his 41 years in Major League Baseball, he was instrumental in making big trades and building farm teams. Under Dalton's direction, the Brewers received the "Baseball America" Organization of the Year Award" for 1985 - 1987. Dalton was twice named "Executive of the Year" by The Sporting News, 1970 and 1982. In 1960, he was married to his wife Pat and had three daughters. He retired in 1994 and moved to Arizona, where he died in 2005 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Source: National Baseball Hall of Fame clippings file: Dalton, Harry.
