Scope and Contents
This collection contains the papers of Jules Tygiel, organized in two series. Series I contains material on his books, primarily
"Baseball's Great Experiment", correspondence, Tygiel's baseball fantasy league, and newspaper clippings. Also includes correspondence with his agent, publisher, interviews, research notes and articles, manuscript, grant material, film research, script, and outline.
Series II contains the interviews on thirty-eight audio tapes, which Tygiel conducted for his book "Baseball's Great Experiment", related to Jackie Robinson.

Biographical / Historical
Jules Tygiel, a historian and self-confessed baseball nut whose Brooklyn upbringing inspired his highly regarded scholarship on Jackie Robinson and on the integration of American society seen through the lens of baseball. Tygiel wrote "Baseball's Great Experiment: Jackie Robinson and His Legacy" (1983), his best known work. He wrote or edited several other books about race and baseball, including "Past Time: Baseball as History" (2000) and "Extra Bases: Reflections on Jackie Robinson, Race and Baseball History" (2002).

Abstract
This is a collection of correspondence, research notes, chapter notes, grant material, interviews, audio cassettes, contracts, newspaper clippings, and manuscript relating to various papers, books, and articles by Jules Tygiel.
